Meet Your Match

By: MMDR

You may have noticed that some of our adoptables have little colourful icons beside their photos, and a personality description (or "Canine-Ality") such as “Goofball” or “Teacher’s Pet”. What are these all about? We participate in a great program called “Meet Your Match”, started by the ASPCA to help families find the perfect new furry family member.

Basically, Meet Your Match is a program that we use to assess a dog’s personality. The dog will go through a series of tests to see how they react to different stimuli and situations, and they are scored according to their reactions. The dog is then placed into one of three motivation types (internal, external or social), and within that group they are assessed for their energy level (low, medium or high).

What are the Canine-Alities?
The three socially motivated Canine-Alities
(green = low, orange = medium and purple = high energy).

The three internally motivated Canine-Alities
(green = low, orange = medium and purple = high energy).

The three externally motivated Canine-Alities
(green = low, orange = medium and purple = high energy).

How do the Canine-Alities help me choose a dog?

By doing the Meet Your Match survey, you will be matched with your ideal partner. However, you’re not limited to whichever result you get in the survey! The Meet Your Match program simply means that adopters go into the process knowing more about their dog’s personality and needs. Knowing how your new dog is motivated, and his or her energy level, is an invaluable tool in a successful match. Plus, it’s a whole lot of fun!

Take the Meet Your Match Survey today to see what type of dog is your ideal pet!
